In the latest round of the saga of poor Carrie Prejean, a sex tape of the former Miss California USA has been introduced into the plot. As you’ll recall, Miss Prejean became a darling of the right wing after coming in second in the Miss USA contest. Her response to a question on same-sex marriage, not noted for it’s intelligence or delivery, even if a dearly held belief of Miss Prejean’s, became instant fodder for the judge who asked the question, on-line gossip Perez Hilton. Quickly taken up by the religious right, who echoed her claims that she lost the Miss USA crown due to her “moral” stand on same-sex marriage, her cause became a national sensation, portrayed as an attack on her personal “family values” beliefs. The latest chapter in this never-ending saga now includes reports of a video of Miss Prejean in a solo performance of a sexual nature.

The Family Research Council has posted another missive of disinformation, full of falsehoods, misdirection, deliberate misstatement of facts, and continued posting of disproven and discredited research. All in the name of God, of course. See the FRC’s page at www.frc.org
From FRC’s Washington Update page:
For HHS, a Senior Moment

Before we entrust Secretary Kathleen Sebelius with health care reform, maybe Americans should take a closer look at how her Department spends other taxpayer dollars. Even the Washington Post called Friday’s announcement from Health and Human Services (HHS) an “eye opener,” writing that the President’s “gay outreach continues.” A $1.4 trillion deficit aside, HHS has set aside a quarter million dollars to launch the first-ever National Resource Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders.

Many have asked about the rights and benefits that are denied to same-sex couples. Following is a summary report from the GAO of the 1,138 federal rights and benefits provided via DOMA to married couples. These rights don’t even begin to address the those granted to married couples by the state.
Defense of Marriage Act: Update to Prior Report
GAO-04-353R January 23, 2004
Summary
The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) provides definitions of “marriage” and “spouse” that are to be used in construing the meaning of a federal law and, thus, affect the interpretation of a wide variety of federal laws in which marital status is a factor. In 1997, we issued a report identifying 1,049 federal statutory provisions classified to the United States Code in which benefits, rights, and privileges are contingent on marital status or in which marital status is a factor. In preparing the 1997 report, we limited our search to laws enacted prior to September 21, 1996, the date DOMA was signed into law. Recently, Congress asked us to update our 1997 compilation. We have identified 120 statutory provisions involving marital status that were enacted between September 21, 1996, and December 31, 2003. During the same period, 31 statutory provisions involving marital status were repealed or amended in such a way as to eliminate marital status as a factor. Consequently, as of December 31, 2003, our research identified a total of 1,138 federal statutory provisions classified to the United States Code in which marital status is a factor in determining or receiving benefits, rights, and privileges.

US Capitol Rally Ignored – Fox News Hypocrites

On September 12, 2009, a rally was held in Washington D.C. Tens of thousands of people attended, with the Washington D.C. Fire Department estimating crowds at 60 – 70,000. (The National Park Service, responsible for the Capitol and National Mall grounds, does not provide crowd estimates, nor does the Washington D.C. Police Department) Right wing commentators in the media and on the Visalia Times Delta’s online forums quickly tried to inflate those numbers to ridiculous levels of one to two million. Relentlessly hyped by Fox News well in advance, and endlessly on the day of the event, crowds came from across the United States to protest. Exactly what they were protesting was really never clear, and many of the protesters could not articulate more than vague soundbite slogans heard on television and talk radio. Fox News continually chastised the “Main Stream Media” for not covering the protest march, continually asking why it was not worthy of coverage. That commentary would end up branding Fox News hypocrites of major proportions, and I’ll get to just how in a moment.

So the weekend has just started, and already things are weird. Big storm early in the week, that blew down part of my fence.

I called the insurance company that holds my homeowner’s policy, and after my deductible, sharing with the adjoining property owner, and depreciation, they would gladly cut me a check for $10.54. I told them “never mind”.
After the rain, fog. Now fog is normal after rain here, but this fog was creepy. It was warm and muggy fog, something I can’t remember ever experiencing. It’s creeping me out big time.
