Hey! What is happening? Is Washington actually going to surprise me and pass the National Defense Authorization Act WITH the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell still in the bill? It seems so! Recent reports are making it look like the bill will come before the Senate with the repeal provision intact, and that there are enough votes to prevent a filibuster by Senator John McCain or others.
I’m crossing my fingers, and looking forward to seeing this discriminatory stain on our national honor fading away, beginning next year.
A new group, formed only this year, GetEQUAL is raising the ire of some in the LGBTQ community with their protest actions. Focus On The Rainbow blogger Lyndon Evans takes GetEQUAL to task for todays events. Calling the vigil at the gravesite a “photo-op” and a disgrace, Evans chastises Choi and GetEQUAL for staging “stunts”.
The foot-dragging by the US government on the repeal of the discriminatory Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy is beyond irritating. Gays and lesbians are serving silently, and with honor, throughout the US military. Unfortunately, the US government is also serving silently – albeit with dishonor. The lack of progress on this repeal falls squarely on the shoulders of the spineless Democrats. How is it that the Democrats can occupy the White House, th … Read More
Shhhh… don’t tell anyone! Last night, we had control! For 10 hours last night, the fate of a certain central California county was first partially, then completely, in the hands of two of the Rainbow Dispatchers Coalition!
Telling them where to go, and how to get there, secretly flying under the Rainbow Flag! Bwahahaha!
Jim, anyone with half a brain that can think in abstract fashion knows that the Huffington Post is a left wing blog. And knows already that they are already bias. The only people who read Huffington are the very small minority (that would be you and JB)
I myself won’t read anything from Arianna Huffington a godless liberal from Western Europe. She’s a socialist know-nothing. I also know about what’s going on in Oklahoma and the 30,000+ muslims who reside in OK. They want to practice their own laws instead of the prevailing law of the land, and that’s both the State and Federal laws. Incidentally those 30,000+ (but not more then 34,000) make up less then 1% of the total population of the State and the voter’s have decided that. It’s sad that muslims want to be treated above and special then the rest of society in general.
It’s the same mentality that so pervaded the homosexual community in CA, gays want to have special status in so much as to hold “special” protective status whereas, that they want to make it a criminal offence to have homosexuality be called a sin, of which; it is. The real truth Jim is that gays, lesbians, transgenders make up less then 1/10 of 1% of either the States, or National population, yet they want to shove their lifestyle down the rest of us. You sir are a liar and will not tell the truth. I’m offended by your lifestyle and am also offended that you deserve to be treated any differently then anyone else just because you’re gay. No sir, you do not. You’re no different then anyone else and if you come out of the closet and come under fire for saying who you are. Then that comes with the territory.
Furthermore, if you don’t like what I say, then too bad so sad. Throw a fit, get angry, go tattletale on your friends about what I’ve said. It’s not my soul I’m throwing away, it’s yours.
S/he’s in quite the snit today, don’t you think?
My response:
Breaking News: A three judge panel of the 9th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2 to 1 on Monday to indefinitely extend their stay of the lower court’s ruling which overturned the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Don’t Pursue” policy, in effect at the Department of Defense since 1994. “The public interest in enduring orderly change of this magnitude in the military — if that is what is to happen — strongly militates in favor of a stay,” Judges Diarmu … Read More
It’s pretty cool to interact with people who make a difference on a national stage. Lt. Dan Choi Tweeted that he was making an appearance on CNN, so I caught that short broadcast this morning as I was winding down my day. A good but short segment, he spoke briefly about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the recent court actions. After the CNN appearance, he Tweeted that he would be on CSpan, so I decided to stay up later than usual and catch that as well. CSpan allows for a more thorough examination of subjects, and callers can ask their own questions or make comments. I thought Lt. Choi did an excellent job, and fired off a Tweet to him after the CSpan segment. I was surprised to see a response 10 minutes later. With over 9,000 followers, I suspect it’s a challenge for Lt. Choi to keep up with comments, let alone answer them.
I briefly met Lt. Choi last summer when he gave a speech at UCMerced. An interesting appearance that I enjoyed. If you have the chance to see him somewhere, don’t miss it.
I don't often post things from religious sites. Most of the time what they say is 180 degrees from what I consider to be the truth, or at the very least the humane thing to say or do. This opinion piece from Religion Dispatches is different. This article speaks the truth, and is worth your time. Why Anti-Gay Bullying is a Theological Issue By Cody J. Sanders And the moral imperative of anti-bullying preaching, teaching, and activism [caption i … Read More
Random thoughts, occasional rants, illuminating commentary, and an odd story now and then from the world of 9-1-1 dispatching. All this and more from a gay liberal atheist living in California’s Bible belt. I recently married, so MAGA beware! I’m your worst nightmare! Some names have been omitted to protect the innocent, but the guilty will be hung out to dry!
Maybe?
