I’m out in the sunshine, here at Mooney Grove, at Gay Visalia’s Family Fest. A good turnout, lots of young people, and folks with their kids.

“Fierce Advocate”? No, not really. (via Queer Visalia)

I’m a bit disappointed in him right now. The alternative isn’t acceptable, so I’m sure I’ll vote for him again, but he’s not living up to his promises.

"Fierce Advocate"? No, not really. He promised to be a “fierce advocate”.  He’s claimed he’s a “fierce advocate”.   If he doesn’t step up and start actually delivering on his “fierce advocacy”,  he may be a one-term “advocate”. The Obama Administration’s Justice Department filing regarding the recent court ruling that “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Don’t Pursue” is unconstitutional, here. In short, they’re saying the ruling can only apply to the people involved in the suit, and not to th … Read More

Discovery’s final roll out.  November’s launch to the International Space Station will be the last flight for this historic vehicle.  The third orbiter in the Shuttle fleet, Discovery’s first launch was on August 30, 1984.  In April 1990,  it launched the Hubble Space Telescope from it’s cargo bay.  In it’s career, Discovery has flown over 30 missions.  For more information, check out NASA’s Discovery pages, here and here.

I’m killing some time in the Tower District in Fresno, waiting to meet up with friends for Reel Pride. I’m at Teazer’s getting a ‘lavender (appropriate?) creme Earl Grey (also appropriate!)’
This post is being made from my iPhone, while sitting in Teazer’s waiting for my tea. it’s also my first post made from the iPhone, using the WordPress app. Hopefully I won’t make too many typos!
The tea just arrived, so excuse me while I drink it!

Abraham Lincoln – Gay American?

For four years, Abraham Lincoln and Joshua Speed shared one bed.  At the time, it was common for two men of limited economic means to sleep together, but Lincoln and Speed’s arrangement continued long after the young future President could afford his own bed.  Lincoln, in letters to Speed,  said “I do not feel my own sorrows more keenly than I do yours,” and “You know my desire to befriend you is everlasting.”  Lincoln signed letters to Speed “yours forever”, a phrase not used even with his wife, Mary Todd.  Lincoln’s lifelong struggle with “melancholia”,  his professed affection for Speed, and his reported awkwardness around women lead some to believe Lincoln was gay.

NASA’s latest Mars rover, Curiosity, passed an agility test by successfully navigating a set of ramps.  Each wheel can maneuver independently, allowing for the flexibility needed to traverse the rocky Martian surface autonomously. Set for launch in late November 2011, the car sized mobile science machine will study Mars for two years or more.
