Sunday Night in the Tower

I’m killing some time in the Tower District in Fresno, waiting to meet up with friends for Reel Pride. I’m at Teazer’s getting a ‘lavender (appropriate?) creme Earl Grey (also appropriate!)’
This post is being made from my iPhone, while sitting in Teazer’s waiting for my tea. it’s also my first post made from the iPhone, using the WordPress app. Hopefully I won’t make too many typos!
The tea just arrived, so excuse me while I drink it!

1960.  The Cold War was as hot as ever.  Castle Air Force Base in Atwater was a Strategic Air Command base. My father, 21 years old, was stationed there as part of the training of B-52 and KC-135 crews that was Castle’s primary focus during the time he was there.   It wasn’t long before he was transferred to Korea, and our family left Atwater.  Dad left for overseas, and my new little sister and I moved with our mother to her parent’s house outsi … Read More

One of my hobbies is HAM radio.  On some of the frequencies, we can do live television.  Here’s a picture of something on my TV right now.  The Ham who owns the repeater has his ID running now, earlier another operator had some live video broadcasting from his “shack”.  Here are some links that can show you more.

Fair warning:  This is a dangerous group.  You never know what might result from them getting together.  What one doesn’t think of, the others will.   A primary operating premise is “they said it can’t be done. Let’s go do it!!”

Yes.  Shameless promotion.  What can I say?  We’re Queer that way.

Main and Court, Visalia from about 1863.  Perhaps the earliest photograph of Visalia.  Looking east from just west of the intersection.

The same intersection today.  Would any Visalians of the first picture recognize their town?

The Blind Shall Not See The dam is about to break, the whole area is in danger.  The National Guard sends a truck around to evacuate the residents.  One man, let’s call him “Bob”, tells the Guardsmen he won’t leave, that “God will provide”.  The Guardsmen argue for a bit, telling Bob he needs to come with them, now.  The dam could break at any minute!  Bob refuses, and the would-be rescuers drive off to get to others before it’s too late. The dam breaks.  Water is risin … Read More
