I Live In The Future

I’m laying in a luxury bed in a beautiful large room, in a fancy hotel, near the ocean and an international travel center.  I have a computer on my lap, a device that’s almost a Tricorder (my iPhone) on the table next to me, and a flat screen TV across the room.  I traveled here in a machine that is simple to control at high speeds, moderately inexpensive to operate, and has room for five people.   I had fresh salmon for dinner last night, prepared at my order.

I live in the future.  And it’s cool.  Still a bit disappointed, though.  I really thought I’d have that flying car by now.  George Jetson, you led me on, you bumbling bastard.

Well, dammit

Dear Jim Reeves,

We regret to inform you that you were not selected for the NASA Tweetup nor the wait list. Thank you for your interest in attending the NASA Tweetup in conjunction with the launch of space shuttle Atlantis on the STS-135 mission. We value your interest in space and wish we had room to invite all 5,500+ who applied! Thank you for your ongoing support of our nation’s space program and the men and women — including astronauts living in orbit — who work at NASA.

Did she just call me a faggot? (via Queer Visalia)

Did she just call me a faggot? I think I might have been gay-bashed, verbally at least, this afternoon.  It’s a bit odd, and I’m not sure that it actually happened. I’ve been pretty lucky, as far as gay-bashing goes.  I’ve never been the victim of any kind of physical assault, and the last time I can recall being verbally harassed was in high school (and that was 35 or so years ago!).  Back then, it was simply the worst thing one teenage boy could say to the other, and it was … Read More

AIDS/Life Cycle 10 Kick Off

Here’s Ted and I at the front lobby of the Cow Palace, waiting for the opening ceremonies to begin.  Can you tell we’re both running on almost no sleep?  Huge crowd, I’ll have some videos later of the riderless bike, and the start of the ride.

Ted and I take a break at Peet’s Coffee & Tea shop on Market, near the Castro.

(it might even be considered in Castro, the neighborhoods here are fairly small, and it’s only about two or three blocks from Castro Street.)

The Ride To End Aids

Ted Freitas

I recently published an interview, on QueerFresno and QueerLandia, with Ted Freitas on his upcoming participation in the 10th annual AIDS/Life Cycle, The  Ride To End Aids.

The ride begins this weekend in San Francisco, and ends the following Saturday in Los Angeles.  535 miles.  Ted will be live-tweeting the ride as much as possible, and you can follow him on Twitter, @tedfreitas, and read more on his blog, My Rebooted Life.

I’ll also be doing some posting on the blog myself, and I hope to link up with Ted and the riders Wednesday evening in Paso Robles.

Look for my posts at Ted’s site, My Rebooted Life, http://myrebootedlife.com, my Twitter feed @kc6yru, and here at JimmieJoe.com.

Harvey Milk Day Commentary

Here’s the text of my Guest Commentary in the Visalia Times Delta of May 20, 2011.

“My name is Harvey Milk, and I’m here to recruit you.”

Making this statement during public appearances, Harvey Milk was recruiting people to come out of the closet. He felt this action was the most important thing people in the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community could do to ensure their civil rights. If more people were aware of the gay associates, friends, family and loved ones around them, it would become impossible for most of them to continue past habits of discrimination.

Sunday, May 22, is the second annual California Harvey Milk Day. It’s a day to remind all Californians of the ability of one person to make a difference.

Tuesday Walkabout

My house is down there somewhere.

So I’ve lived in my current residence 14 years now.  This evening I took a stroll around the neighborhood.  Second time I’ve done that, and the first time was just a couple of weeks ago.  This picture is taken about a half a mile from my house, looking back towards it.  The fence is around the school where I attended for a short time, back in the 4th or 5th grade.

The total walk was 1.85 miles, as best I can figure it, using Precision Mapping.  I can see that I need to buy some walking shoes, if I’m going to do this very often.  The shoes I wore are clearly not made for walking.
