Carl let me down

Last year it was the King who disappointed me, getting my orders wrong time after time.  Now, it’s Carl.  He didn’t get the order wrong, but it certainly was a let down.  I pulled into the drive through at the nearby Carl’s Jr this evening, intending to get one of their “Six Dollar Burgers”.  I first saw the window banner, then the menu board listing for the teryaki burger.  That’s it in the picture.  Well, that’s the advertising model, at any rate.  Looks delicious, doesn’t it?   I’ve had some really good teryaki burgers in the past, and I had high hopes.  Red Robin has a good one, and the now-closed Baker’s Square had one I really like, too.  I thought to myself, “self, that looks good!  Get that!”  My self replied “You’re right! That looks yummy!  We’ll get that!”

I really wish I had taken a picture of what I got home with, but I didn’t think of it until it was too late.  The pineapple was a slim little cut, less than a third of the thickness you see above.  The meat was probably close, but it was a bit tired looking, like it had been under a heat lamp a couple of minutes too long.  The lettuce was limp, the tomatoes a bit bland.  The only thing that lived up to expectations was the onion slices.

That is not an acceptable burger to send home with someone, especially after teasing them with pictures like that.  So, sorry Carl, you’ve joined the King on my shit list.

Next.

Road Trip pictures

So here are the pictures I took on the road trip to Yuma.  I didn’t take too many, and most of them are of the prison museum at Yuma.

Three days, 900 miles, snow on the Grapevine (the highway, not the plant), huge, towering dust storms starting in Palm Springs and continuing to Yuma, wrong turns in Indio and El Centro, seeing the border fence from I-8 west of Yuma, seeing Border Patrol units all over the place…

Think of a random person, and give them a message here, no names:
You’re supposed to be the IT person, so fix the damned computers!

Can you take a bra off with one hand?
LOL…  never tried. Is it difficult?

Last furry thing you touched:
A german shepard. A big one. Thank goodness she’s friendly.

Spell your name without vowels:
Jmm Rvs

Do you wanna get married anytime soon?
No, I’m too young to get married.

Have you ever kissed someone in a band?
He used to be in a band, does that count?

When you looked in the mirror today, what was your first thought?
Who is that old man, and where is he hiding me?

WTF??   It’s not even winter yet, and it’s freakin’  freezing around here!  I’m a California boy…  this kind of cold is only supposed to happen up in the mountains, where it can be visited by those who find the Arctic a balmy part of the planet!  I want my summer back!

TCSO Scanner audio online

I’m streaming our radio traffic onto the internet.  You can hear the audio by pointing your browser, or Media Player, to mms://kc6yru.net:1199. It’s a stereo feed, with Channel One, the south end of the county, being on the left track.  Channel Two, the north end, is on the right track.  I was having some difficulty with the computer I was originally using, so I’ve moved it to one that should be more stable, and online 24/7.  If you listen closely, and at the right times, you may even hear me!

This feed is not provided by Tulare County Sheriff’s Department, or Tulare County, and they are not responsible for it being online.  The equipment is simply two scanners of mine, feeding into a sound card on a computer running Windows Media Encoder.

UPDATE:  January 9, 2011 – I’m no longer streaming the scanner audio.  The computer I was using decided to start acting up, and I don’t have a reliable replacement for it.  I don’t know if I’ll be putting the feed back up in the future or not.  In the meantime, if you have an iPhone or iPad, you can download 5-0 Radio, or Scanner911 and catch us there.

So the weekend has just started, and already things are weird.  Big storm early in the week, that blew down part of my fence.

I called the insurance company that holds my homeowner’s policy, and after my deductible, sharing with the adjoining property owner, and depreciation, they would gladly cut me a check for $10.54.  I told them “never mind”.

After the rain, fog.  Now fog is normal after rain here, but this fog was creepy.  It was warm and muggy fog, something I can’t remember ever experiencing.  It’s creeping me out big time.
