Oakland Threw Me A Birthday Party!

How’s this for a birthday bash?  Oakland’s gay community got together and decided to throw a big street party in honor of my birthday!

Such thoughtful folks!  And so many adorable men!  Even Chaka Khan was there!

Sorry about the audio, iPhones just can’t handle loud bass. Or just plain loud, for that matter.

The boat before the Boat.  Before the Coupe de Ville was the 1968 Chrysler Imperial.  A 440 cubic inch V-8, power everything, it would float along at 80 mph like it was riding on silk.  Another gas hog, and a bit spare compared to the opulence of the Cadillac that followed,  but still a great car.  I think my Dad paid about $300 for it.  Mine was a rich blue, called “silver cloud metallic”.  I didn’t see the silver, the metallic, or the clouds, bit it was a nice blue shade.

Sigh.

No, not economical, not ecological, not cheap to run.

But still a heck of a car.

An interesting take on the anti-immigrant movement in this country. So much rhetoric, so little factual basis. Studies like this will be ignored or discounted, but they are at least based on facts.

As per historical trends, the recent economic stupor has led to an increase in anti-immigrant sentiments and xenophobia generally. However via Kevin Drum comes a study from the San Francisco Fed about how immigration has next to no negative effects on employment and actually raises average incomes of native-born workers: The analysis begins with the well-documented phenomenon that U.S.-born workers and immigrants tend to take different occupation … Read More
