I’m A Relic!

commentary, Personal Jim Reeves, Relic, service award, Tulare County Board of Supervisor's Leave a comment
I mean, I got a Relic… 15 years service at Tulare County. A nice introduction in front of the crowd. More brass there than I’ve ever seen at one gathering! The Sheriff himself, and a bunch of the rest of them. Not there for me, of course, many of them were receiving service recognition too, but still a big crowd. SRO in the Supervisor’s Chambers.

Personal Board of Supervisors, service award, Tulare County Leave a comment
On Tuesday, April 20 2010, I will be recognized for 15 years employment with Tulare County. The award will be presented at the Tulare County Board of Supervisor’s Chambers, during their weekly meeting. A nice certificate, a token of appreciation in the form of a nice watch, and a handshake with my Supervisor, Mr. Cox is on the agenda.
You are invited to attend, 9am in the Board’s Chambers, 2800 W. Burrel Ave., Visalia.
(Isn’t government wonderful? My 15th anniversary was July 5, 2009! Better late than never, eh?)

Brian Jacob Smith currently portrays Lt. Matthew Scott on the SyFy Channel’s Stargate: Universe series, part of SyFy Friday.
All I can say is… he’s hot! Even if the show was a complete dud (and it’s not, not by a long shot, but that’s not what this blog is about!) I’d watch it just to see him. And so you don’t suppose I’ve just gone silly over his looks, he’s a good actor as well. It will be interesting to see where the character goes in the rest of this season, and into the second, which is already in production in Vancouver, British Columbia.
A member of the Twitter generation, Smith can be followed here.
Now, some more gratuitous hotness…

Tea Party Rally Half-Steeped

commentary Chukchansi Park, Fresno Tea Party, rally fizzles, Tea Baggers 1 Comment
Fresno’s Tea Party held a rally at Chukchansi Park Saturday, April 10. With a capacity of 12,700, the park looked pathetically empty when only 3,800 people showed up to vent their displeasure with the government. The event drew roughly half the number who attended last year’s rally at Save-Mart Center, also in Fresno.
In a stunning admission of the priorities of Tea Party members, organizers blamed low turnout to “Big Hat Days”, a craft show/street fair in the adjoining city of Clovis.

To some, like Senator John McCain (R-AZ), this is one of the most dangerous men in the United States military. His very presence “would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion”.
That danger, however, only exists if he is honest. If he lies, either by commission (saying he is heterosexual) or omission (hiding the truth from others who trust him with their lives), then he is perfectly acceptable as a member of the world’s most powerful military machine. If he is honest about himself, then morale is immediately destroyed, good order and discipline disappear, and his unit is no longer a cohesive whole. This, at least according to some, is why homosexuals must not be allowed to serve their country in the military.
Lt. Dan Choi is a perfect example of why that policy should be changed.
