Gay Marriages May Resume August 18
I’m not sure whether to report the stay lifted, or the stay extended.
Judge Vaughn Walker today announced that he will lift the temporary stay of his ruling that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional, but that he is extending that stay until August 18, 2010, at 5pm. This will allow proponents of the amendment time to file their appeal with the Appellate Court. If that court does not issue some sort of stay on the matter by that time, then gay marriage will resume at 5:01pm. Anybody planning to get married has at least six more days to think about it.
Phone Geek: iPhone 4 Signal Dropping Hoopla

OK, here’s the scoop, in a less techno-babbled/marketing mumbo-jumbo/lawyer-powered manner. Cell phones use radio signals. You probably knew that already. Radio signals require antennas. You probably knew that, too. The problem with the iPhone 4 is pretty simple. Hold it wrong, and you ground out the antenna.

Last month it was the puppies he dissed, this month it’s music. In another fatwa, Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said today that music is “not compatible” with the values of the Islamic republic, and should not be practiced or taught in the country.
Yep, someone has wound this guy’s turban WAY too tight…

OMG! Robot Geek! NASA Snuck This One Right Past Me!

I’m a bit abashed… NASA snuck this guy right past me, and I never even knew about him! The next Shuttle mission to the International Space Station, set for September, will include R2, a robot! Well… half a robot, for now, anyway. He doesn’t have any legs, and he’ll be bolted down, but he’s going to become a permanent part of ISS. Eventually, they’ll take him outside on spacewalks, to assist astronauts and cosmonauts. Here’s a video where the designers talk a bit about him. You can follow him on Twitter, too!
He even gets his own mission patch!
This is sooo cool!
Of course, in every bad science fiction story where the robots take over or destroy the world, the first robots are innocuous. We will have to keep an eye on this guy, and any compatriots that get built.
I offer some suggestions for their design:
#1. An easy to reach off switch!
#2. An equivalent to the Three Laws of Robotics.
#3. Don’t ever give them a personality, no matter how much they beg for one!

From time to time, I get emails like this at MySpace. It’s clear whoever is sending these kind of messages does not bother to read the profile of the recipients.

This past week we’ve been dealing with a 5150. He’s been calling numerous times, threatening us with lawsuits and dire consequences if we don’t deal with his issue. (which involves NATIONAL SECURITY HARD DRIVES stolen from his home by other law enforcement agencies. The home he was evicted from. Very strange) My last interaction with him I told him we could not help him, and that if his issue involved NATIONAL SECURITY HARD DRIVES then he needed to call the FBI. He said he already called them, and I’m sure they were less sympathetic than we’ve been. Remember that line from MIB? “The FBI does not have a sense of humor that we’re aware of”. He would not stop his rant, so I finally hung up on him. He called right back and some other dispatcher dealt with him. He likes the women better, and she was able to sweet talk him into calming down.
Anyway, it’s Friday night, and it’s my Friday night! 10 hours and then the weekend begins again. I’m ready!
